Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
