NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

[ English ]

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
