Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
