Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
