NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
