No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
