No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
