Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
