Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
