Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
