Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he loved participating in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and focus more on poker.
The definite improvement in his abilities began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge one another. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL hold’em.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena ever. Howard moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
